James Curtis,’44, was honored as an Albion High School Distinguished Alumni Award recipient in September. A 1946 graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School, James is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry. During his career, he was affiliated with Cornell University Medical College, New York Medical College, Harlem Hospital Center, and Columbia University. He was appointed by the governor as a member of the New York State Mental Health Services Council. He was a member of the New York State Mental Health Planning Advisory Committee and Multicultural Advisory Committee and a member of the Medical and Health Research Association of New York City, serving five years as the vice president. James was recognized in 1986 as a Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and in 2003 as a Distinguished Life Fellow. A widely published author who also enjoys collecting art, he recently returned to live in Albion. He has one son.
