Bindu MadhokPhilosophy FacultyMy research is focused on developing a multi-layered and holistic understanding of ethical value-structures underlying societal and individual beliefs, practices, and institutions. In assessing the ethical impact of a complex phenomenon, such as the effect of globalization on the issue of personal autonomy, I develop a reflective equilibrium between the relevant empirical factors (such as the cultural context and the focus group for such a study) and the normative forces at work (including ethical norms such as justice and well-being used in assessing the ethical impact of globalization on people’s lives). The ability to look at complex ethical issues from multiple perspectives is also what I most enjoy conveying to my students. Learn more about Dr. Madhok and her research.
