There has been an observatory on the Albion College campus since 1883. In the past, the Observatory was used to keep track of trains running from Detroit to Chicago, but its main purposes today are that it houses the Honors Department and is one of the two telescopes open to student use on campus. The Observatory telescope is a Clark 8" refractor. The second telescope is located on top of the Palenske Hall Science Building, which has recently been renovated.
