What is Asian Studies?

The term Asian Studies refers to in-depth, interdisciplinary study of the region of the world known as Asia. The political and geographical scope of "Asia," as used in the academic community, generally includes Northeast Asian countries such as China, North Korea, South Korea, and Japan; Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, or Singapore; and Southern Asian countries such as India and Pakistan. While Asia encompasses a vast geographical area, diverse populations, and numerous linguistic communities, the countries in Asia share strong cultural and historical similarities that distinguish Asia from other regions.

Albion College offers a minor in Asian Studies. Students may also elect to pursue a self-designed major in Asian Studies.
