How to Obtain Accommodations and Related Services at Albion

1. Provide Required Documentation

Documentation provided must meet standards listed under the area of disability. Providing complete, current documentation is in the best interest of the student in securing appropriate accommodations.

2. Request Accommodations

Each semester, the student must complete a Request for Faculty Notification Form and return it to the Learning Support Center. Services and accommodation will not be offered until a student makes this request. First year students and students presenting documentation for the first time will be expected to meet with the Center director in order to complete this form.

3. Letter of Accommodation

Once the request is received, the Learning Support Center will request letters from the Director of Learning Support Center notifying appropriate faculty members of the accommodations.

4. Follow up with Faculty

The letter of accommodation is not meant to be a final statement of accommodation. Rather, it is important that the student communicate with his/her instructors and faculty advisor about the specifics of the accommodation. Instructors will be able to discuss options for the accommodations. The instructor may also be able to assist the student in preparing for various aspects of the course that might present challenges.

5. Academic Support Assistance

If the accommodation a student is receiving is not effective, the Learning Support Center staff will meet with the student to make reasonable adjustments. Based on the nature of a course, some accommodations may be more appropriate than others. Should a student ever encounter resistance to the accommodations they are eligible for, contact the Learning Support Center staff.

6. Future Scheduling of Classes

Although Albion firmly believes in a faculty advisor model to assist students with their course selection, Learning Support Center staff is willing to meet with students during the scheduling period. The staff can provide supplementary advising regarding course selection that is specific to the student's disability and accommodations.

7. Other Campus Resources

The Learning Support Center strongly encourages students to take advantage of additional campus resources. Services available through the Academic Skills Center include the Writing Center, the Quantitative Skills Center, and peer tutoring. Students can also direct questions regarding coursework to the Learning Support Center staff who provide study skills sessions open to all Albion students.
