Sustainability Speaker: Dan Carmody
Long before Henry Ford, the Eastern Market was a thriving success in downtown Detroit. The nation's largest farmer's market and its role in Michigan's local-food movement will be told by Eastern Market president Dan Carmody, Albion's Year of Sustainability September guest. Carmody's presentation about the Eastern Market takes place Thursday, September 26, at 8 p.m. in Norris Science Center Towsley Hall.
Detroit's Eastern Market attracts more than 45,000 visitors each week, and provides business space for everyone from local farmers to wholesalers, including many organic and specialty food producers. Carmody himself has spent 20 years in Michigan and Indiana, working to help develop local food systems and revive both small towns and urban city centers.
