1978 Class Notes

Joseph Calvaruso, ’78, was honored with a Distinguished Alumni Award from Albion High School in September. Joe received an M.B.A. in finance from Western Michigan University. Senior vice president of Mercantile Bank in Galesburg, he is also vice chairman of Michigan Certified Development Corp. and is active in the Risk Management Association. Joe is a member of the Kalamazoo County Republican Executive Committee. He has done advance work for three U.S. presidents and their vice presidents on more than 70 events. He has also worked on two presidential inaugurals, and served as the deputy of operations for the Grand Rapids portion of President Gerald Ford’s funeral. He also serves on the Gerald R. Ford Institute Visiting Committee at Albion College. Joe and his wife, Donna, live in Galesburg.

Carolyn Sielaff Gross, ’78, has healed from stage 3 breast cancer without surgery. She now dedicates her speaking and facilitating efforts to advancing cancer treatment options and offering education and inspiration. Carolyn will be touring with her new book, Treatable and Beatable: Healing Cancer without Surgery, in 2007-08. She is the host of a new radio show, “Tune into Breast Cancer Wellness” that launched in July 2007. She and her husband, Bryan, live in Escondido, CA.
