It is all about us. It is about how we think about ourselves. It is about how we evaluate ourselves. It is about how others think about us.
It is ACCREDITATION, and Albion College will be reviewed in February 2011 for reaffirmation of its accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA).
The mission of the Higher Learning Commission is “serving the common good by assuring and advancing the quality of higher learning.” Accreditation is, in essence, a process by which an institution evaluates itself on criteria related to governance and administration, financial stability, admission and student services, institutional resources, student learning, institutional effectiveness, and relationships with internal and external constituencies. The entire institution examines itself microscopically. The period from Fall 2009 through Fall 2010 has been designated as our “Self-Study Year" when we will conduct our extensive self-examination and prepare a detailed report addressing each criterion. After we have evaluated ourselves, a team of reviewers from institutions like Albion will review our self-study, consider our evidence and analyses, and validate what we are doing in some areas while suggesting improvements in others.
