The 1835 Society Help us provide
a foundation of scholarship Named in recognition of the founding of the College, The 1835 Society has been established by the Albion College Board of Trustees to ensure a solid foundation of support for Albion students. Membership in The 1835 Society is extended to those who contribute a minimum of $1,835 for annual scholarships, including matching gifts. It is hoped that 1835 Society members will consider a five-year commitment. Each donation of $1,835 will be used to create an 1835 Scholarship that will be awarded to a deserving Albion College student. Student recipients will be notified that they have received the scholarship, and the donor will receive a list of 1835 scholarship recipients annually. The Baird Challenge: Richard L. Baird, '78, Chairman of the Albion College Board of Trustees, has generously provided a $1,000,000 challenge gift to encourage membership in The 1835 Society over the next decade. The first phase of Mr. Baird's challenge gift will be a donation of $500,000 over five years, provided 100 Charter Members are recruited by June 30, 2006, and then expanded to 200 members over a 5-year period. The next phase of the Baird Challenge will provide a second challenge gift of $500,000 over five years, provided membership expands to 400 members by 2016. Thanks to the $1,000,000 Baird Challenge, it is anticipated that The 1835 Society will grow to 400 members over the next 10 years, producing $5,000,000 in annual scholarship support. The Membership Commitment Form is now available online. To become a member of The 1835 Society or for more information on The Baird Challenge please contact the Office of Institutional Advancement at 517.629.0446.
