History and Symbols

Alpha Xi Delta is a national fraternity for women committed to enhancing the collegiate experiences of undergraduate members, providing alumnae members with continuing support and opportunities for service, fellowship and personal development, and to support institutions of higher education. Founded in 1893 by ten women at Lombard College in Galesburg, Illinois, Alpha Xi Delta has now grown to more than 110,000 initiated members and 110 active chapters. Once initiated, members of Alpha Xi Delta are members for life, showing the highest importance of friendship.

Choose Children is the national philanthropy of Alpha Xi Delta. The mission statement of our philanthropy states that "Alpha Xi Delta believes in the dignity of the individual child. Children deserve the opportunities to develop to their fullest potential-socially, intellectually, emotionally, and physically-in an environment conducive to the development of character, personal responsibility, good citizenship, and a sense of well-being. Individually and collectively, Alpha Xi Delta members, chapters, and associations support organizations that nurture the child."
