Lisa Lewis Steps Out Of The Classroom To Become Director of Admission Events
Although teaching chemistry is her first love, Lisa Lewis has worked in several capacities throughout her 19 years at Albion College. "I chose a career as a chemistry professor at a liberal arts college because I valued the educational experience I received as an undergraduate, and I wanted to share my enthusiasm for this type of learning with my students," she said.
Never afraid of something new, her latest adventure involves serving as the Director of Admission Events. She sees this new position as an extension of her role as a professor, allowing her to create educational events for prospective students. With an understanding that not everyone immediately recognizes the significance of a liberal arts education, Lisa wants to help visitors experience what life is like at Albion, and enable them to better understand why the education offered here is so valuable.
Lisa's experience as a professor has helped her immensely in this position, as she tackles event planning the same way that she approaches her classroom. "I reflect on what is important for our guests to learn or experience as part of their visit to campus, and then I use this goal to influence the design of the event," she said.
Lisa planned three open houses and more than 20 on-campus events during the Fall 2014 semester in hopes of attracting the next generation of high school graduates. "Our visitors have been energized and excited to meet our faculty and staff, and to work with them on a meaningful project during their visit. They have experienced Albion, and we're showing them, one experience at a time, that it's a great place to grow."
