Celebrating Successes 2001-2002

We in Albion College's Psychology Department and Neuroscience Concentration congratulate our students on their accomplishments. The students listed below have met significant goals associated with their professional development.

• Sarah McRoberts accepted a job in the Psychiatric Partial Hospitalization Program within the Gratiot Community Hospital as a day treatment counselor (7/29/2002).
• Julia Ogg won a Student Travel Award from Faculty for Undergraduate Neuroscience (FUN) to support her travel to present a poster at the national meeting of the Society for Neuroscience (7/1/2002).
• Analisa Velasquez was admitted to the 7-week Institute on Philanthropy and Voluntary Service this summer at Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis (4/25/2002).
• Jessica Zamborsky was admitted to MSU's College of Human Ecology, Department of Family and Child Ecology for a Master of Arts in Child Development, and also to Oakland University's Master of Education program in Early Childhood Education (4/22/2002, 6/27/2002).
• Jenn Sauter will become the shelter manager at S.A.F.E. Place in Battle Creek, starting after graduation (4/21/2002).
• Isa Salvador was admitted to the MSW program at Michigan State University (4/18/2002).
• Tanya Kuprianiak was admitted to the Mental Health Counseling and Behavioral Medicine Program at Boston University School of Medicine (4/18/2002).
• Rebecca Anderson will present a poster entitled "Perceptions of fairness in the justice system: A cross-cultural perspective" (co-authored by Dr. Otto) at the annual meeting of the American Psychological Society in New Orleans in June. (4/11/2002).
• Vicki Kuo, Jessie Kruer, Heather Linz, Kristen Abraham, Leonard Noel, & Tanya Kuprianiak will present a poster entitled "Materialism and Psychological Well-Being: The Role of Social Support" (co-authored by Dr. Christopher) at the annual meeting of the American Psychological Society in New Orleans in May. (3/30/2002).
• Darcy Crain & My Lien (2001) will present a paper entitled "The salience of gender and racial cues on children's choice of playmates" (co-authored by Dr. Keyes) at the annual meeting of the American Psychological Society in New Orleans in May. (3/25/2002).
• Vicki Kuo was admitted to the doctoral program in Industrial/Organizational Psychology at the Illinois Institute of Technology (3/28/2002).
• Josh Hodges was accepted into the American Psychological Association's Summer Science Institute. This is a highly selective 9-day, all-expense paid, intensive program held at Columbia University designed to immerse students in the science of psychology. (2/28/2002)
• Abby Brown was admitted to the Master's Program for Child Life and Family Centered Care at Wheelock College in Boston (2/27/2002).
• Holly Sprunger and Mark Heilala are co-authors (with Dr. Anes) of a poster entitled " Identification performance of brief dynamic emotional expressions as a function of orientation and position in the visual periphery" (view Abstract) to be presented at the Second Annual Conference of the VisionSciences Society, Sarasota, Florida, May 10-15, 2002 (2/25/2002).
• Amanda Goff was admitted to the Case Western University School of Law and to the Detroit College of Law at Michigan State University (2/22/2002).
• Becky Anderson was admitted to the doctoral program in social psychology at the University of Connecticut (2/13/2002) and also a comparable program at Boston College(4/11/2002).
• Nick Gilpin was admitted to Ohio University's College of Osteopathic Medicine (10/29/2001).
• Kelly Hurley was admitted to the University of Chicago's College of Osteopathic Medicine (10/29/2001).
• Rany Aburashed was admitted to West Virginia University's School of Osteopathic Medicine (10/29/2001).
• Sarah Storbeck, Sarah DiPonio, Rose-Anne Meissner, & Courtney Hancock are co-authors (with Dr. Wilson) of a poster entitled "Potential influences of protriptyline on running speed of rats in a 'Crespi effect' study," presented at the 31st annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience, San Diego, CA, November 10 - 15 (9/9/2001).
• Heather Linz is co-author (with Dr. Wilson) of a poster entitled "Experimental neurosis in the rat? Effect of an increasingly difficult auditory differentiation," presented at the annual meeting of the Pavlovian Society in New Brunswick, NJ, October 11 - 13 (9/1/2001).
