The Albion College Symphonic Band, under the direction of Dr. Samuel McIlhagga, is a 70-member ensemble comprising complements of woodwinds, brass, and percussion. Each spring the Symphonic Band performs two to three concerts in Albion College's historic Goodrich Chapel that feature music from the 16th to the 21st centuries. Recent performances have included such works as David Del Tredici's "Acrostic Song" from Final Alice, John Mackey's Hymn to a Blue Hour, John Williams/Donald Hunsberger's Star Wars Trilogy, Percy Grainger's Lincolnshire Posy, Eric Whitacre's Noisy Wheels of Joy, as well as chamber works by Dukas, Gabrieli, Gounod, Mendelssohn, Persichetti, and Jacobs.

In 2008 the Symphonic Band traveled to New York City to both take in the sites and perform in the world-renowned Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine. The band has also shared concerts with area high schools including Springport and DeWitt, as well as Olivet College's Wind Ensemble.

The Symphonic Band is open to all students regardless of major (75-80% of the ensemble is made up of non-music majors). Auditions are traditionally held toward the end of the fall semester and are designed for chair placement.

Rehearsal Days and Times:
Monday from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
Wednesday and Friday from 4:45 - 6:30 p.m.
