Learning Skills Consultations and Academic Coaching
Learning specialists are available to meet with students interested in improving their academic skills or who have questions about optimizing their performance in one or more classes. Based on each student’s interests, past experience and individual approach to learning, the Learning Specialist will helps the student develop some practical strategies. Walk ins are welcome but appointments are recommended. During an initial meeting you will explore needs and identify unique learning characteristics and then plan a course of action. Ongoing meetings to monitor progress are possible as well as semester long "coaching" arrangements.
The Peer Tutoring program provides quality, course-specific academic support to students at no cost. Tutoring sessions are tailored to meet individual student's interests and needs. The focus is to foster independent learning. The Peer Tutors are undergraduate students who have excelled in the course they tutor and have been trained to facilitate discussions on course content as well as study skills and strong academic habits.
Online Learning Resources: Study Skills Information and Electronic Tools for Academic Success
The Learning Specialists have found a number of online resources that students can explore on their own on topics such as learning styles, time management, handling anxiety, organization exam preparation and active learning and other topics. In addition we have included Electronic tools and apps that we have used and recommended to students.

Our mission is to assist students to achieve their academic goals. Learning support services are designed to assist students identify the strategies and methods best suited to their current abilities and strengths. We provide sessions with learning specialists, peer tutoring and a variety of online resources. Disability services is an extension of our mission. The staff works with students with disabilities to provide appropriate services and accommodations.
Learning Skills Consultation
Learning Skills Specialists provide free one-on-one consultations designed to help you develop the study skills necessary to meet the demands of college level learning. During these consultations, you will have the opportunity to assess your study skills, understand your individual learning style, and learn new strategies that will make you a more effective learner at the college level.

- Improving Test Performance by learning a few simple strategies
- Evaluating Individual Learning Styles and examining the best approach to various class requirements
- Questions concerning possible learning disabilities or ADHD
Acquiring new skills and changing habits may require ongoing meetings with a Learning Skills Specialist to initiate and maintain the best possible outcomes. Students and the Learning Specialist can work together to determine the frequency of meetings and the types of support. Common arrangements include weekly or biweekly meetings to refine strategies, informal check-ins, or weekly semester long time management coaching. Coaching is highly recommended for students with organizational and time management concerns.
