Power Holds 'Dance-In' Against Violence
Raising serious awareness through a fun time, Albion College's Power feminist group invites the community to a "dance strike" Thursday, February 14 at 5 p.m. The dancing takes place in front of Baldwin Hall, on Hannah Street between Cass and East Erie streets.
Power's dance strike is part of One Billion Rising, an international movement working to stop violence against women. "We wanted to do this to raise awareness for those without a voice," said Power member Ariel Farley. "This is a strike against rape and abuse but our strike is a dance."
Farley further pointed out that statistics indicate that one in three women will be the victim of rape or other physical abuse in her lifetime. "This means your mother, your grandmother, and your sister. One of them is or will be a victim," said Farley. Participating in the dance strike is "for them, for others, or for yourself."
This event is free and open to the public. It is not expected to last longer than 30-45 minutes. For more information, contact Farley at

Governor Appoints College Archivist to State Historical Records Advisory Board
Governor Rick Snyder recently announced the appointment of Albion College archivist Nicole Garrett to the Michigan State Historical Records Advisory Board (MiSHRAB).
Garrett recalled her surprise upon receiving a phone call in late 2012 from the governor's office. "I asked if someone had recommended me, and they said no; they had conducted a search and thought my experience and knowledge matched the appointment," said Garrett. "I'm pretty excited."
