Subjects: Students may select from over 100 courses offered by eleven Faculties (schools). Some popular fields of study include: Engineering, Aboriginal Studies, Anthropology, Sociology, Art History, Developmental Studies, English, Environmental Studies, Gender and Women's Studies, Management and Business Studies, Geography and Geology, Australian History, Film and Literature, Psychology and Sociology, Music, Visual Arts and Graphic Design, Communication Studies, Education, and French, Spanish, Japanese, or Italian Languages.
Prerequisites: Minimum 2.7 GPA, junior-level standing and demonstrated maturity.
Length: Southern hemisphere semester, Academic Year.
Credit: For full load of classes, students may earn up to 4.0 units, depending on coursework chosen. Some courses may be restricted, check with the CIE for more information.
Housing: Single-room accommodation in a co-ed hall of residence. Because on-campus housing is very limited, students should apply early.
Costs not covered by Albion: Travel to Australia, meals, miscellaneous personal expenses.
Comments: The city of Newcastle is a port city with a population of 350,000, located two hours north of Sydney. At the University of Newcastle, North American students are fully integrated into the life of the University, both in the classroom and the halls of residence. A student visa is required. The program will send information about obtaining a visa. Also, AustraLearn makes travel arrangements for the group and takes students on an orientation trip before the beginning of each semester.
