English Language Support
Albion College is committed to providing international students with superior English language suport to help ease the transition to academic life in the United States.
The transition from learning English part-time to studying entirely in English is oftern a difficult one. Despite having studied English for six years or more, it is common for new students at American colleges and universities to report that professors talk too fast, that the amount of reading is too great, and/or that writing assignments are more demanding than expected. Part of this is due to the gradual adjustment that takes place in the first semester; another part is adjusting to the cultural expectations of American professors.
At Albion College, all first-year international students are placed in the appropriate level of class to help them navigate the transition to the rigorous expectations of an American liberal arts curriculum. Below and on the following page, you will find information about the classes offered.
In addition to transitional classes, Albion College offers a wide variety of supplemental support mechanisms to help all students succeed in their academic efforts. Below you will find information regarding additional support for students at Albion College.
We look forward to meeting you and to helping you succeed at Albion College!
