Why I chose Ford: I was originally attracted to the Ford Institute because of the career/academic support that it offered as I move from college into the working world. Over the past several semesters, I have also come to enjoy the Ford activities that I have participated in, as well as the spirited debates that have occurred, often at random, among different Ford students.
Internship plans: I did an internship last summer working in State Senator Mark C. Jansen's office. This led to a low-level policy assistant job for the Senator later on in the summer. I will be returning to Lansing this summer to work with the House Policy Office, in specific regards to Michigan's budget process. I also hope to find an internship either at the CATO Institute or the Heritage Foundation next summer.
Post-graduation plans: Depending on the results of this November's elections, I will either be contemplating running for State Representative in the Fall of 2014 or attending Graduate school in pursuit of my MPP.
Favorite movie about my future profession: While not a movie, I love every single minute of NBC's The West Wing...as can be probably be deduced from the title, this seven-season show is all about the inner workings of the White House and Washington, D.C.
Current issue/topic that is important to me: I am probably most passionate about the issue of United States global leadership, or lack thereof. I believe that the United States must continue to play a key role in shaping the debate and actions that are taken in the world in order to safeguard not only our own security and freedoms, but give other, less wealthy/powerful/influential nations the chance to develop their own democracies and freedoms.
