New Student Information

Welcome to Albion College. In the following pages you will find information to help guide you through the process of registering with the Learning Support Center (LSC), providing documentation of your disability and receiving accommodations and/or services. We encourage students to register with the Center since eligibility must be established before services can be provided. Once this has been done, the decision to utilize these services and accommodations in any class is a decision of the student. Disclosure of a disability to the Learning Support Center is confidential. A student must sign a formal release each semester before a letter listing approved accommodations is sent to the student's faculty members.

The staff of the Learning Support Center works closely with students in determining the appropriate accommodations and services required. After you identify yourself, you will meet with the Director or Assistant Director of the center in an intake appointment to review you documentation and discuss your previous experiences with services. This helps us to develop a mutually agreed upon plan.

Introduce Yourself

We encourage new students to contact us early to begin the process of registration. Please fill out our contact form to introduce yourself and provide us with some preliminary background information.

SOAR Accommodations

Extra time, a quiet location, and use of computer are provided to students who may wish to utilize these accommodations for completing the writing and math placement exams. Learning Support Center staff will be identified who will assist you. No prior identification or provision of documentation is required to utilize these accommodations at SOAR.

If your require further accommodations (Braille, sign language interpreters, special mobility or dietary requirements) please fill out our contact form and provide us with the necessary specific information.

Residential Life

Students who may have concerns regarding housing should contact the Residential Life Office at 517/629-0224. The staff will be happy to discuss how they can best accommodate your particular needs. Students requesting a single room or to live off campus will need to provide documentation of need. Forms for this purpose are available from the residential Life Office.

Chronic Medical Conditions

Students who have health issues which may impact their ability to meet course requirements (number of absences and/or need for work extensions) may wish to register with the Learning Support Center and provide supporting documentation. The Center staff will then be able to determine your qualification for necessary accommodations. In the event that you find you require these accommodations the LSC staff can provide your faculty members with necessary information on accommodations requirements and work with you on plans to complete course requirements as well as other appropriate support services or accommodations.
