President Mitchell Offers
Condolences for Virginia Tech Tragedy
Posted Monday,
April 16, 2007
Statement from
Albion College President Peter Mitchell
On
behalf of the entire Albion College community, I offer our heartfelt
sympathies and condolences to the students, families, staff and
faculty of Virginia Tech as they attempt to cope with the stunning
tragedy that has resulted in the shooting deaths of a large number
of individuals and
injuries to many others. Words are completely inadequate in
responding to trauma and loss on such a scale.
Albion College Chaplain Daniel McQuown will be conducting prayer
services for persons of all faiths on April 17, 2007 at 8:30 a.m. in
Boyd Chapel (adjacent to Goodrich Chapel) and at 4 p.m. in the
International House Auditorium on campus. These services are open
to anyone from the campus or community.
Students or others on campus affected by this tragic event are
encouraged to make contact with Counseling Services or the Office of
the Chaplain, as needed, for emotional or spiritual support.
All members
of the campus community should also be aware that the College has a
Crisis Management Plan with a specific procedure for the Office of
Campus Safety in the event that such a situation was occurring on
campus. In addition, the City of Albion Department of Public
Safety has an Emergency Response Team (ERT), and the ERT does
conduct training on campus from time to time in order to be better
prepared to respond to such incidents should they occur here. Any
questions about these procedures or general concerns about safety on
campus may be addressed to Mr. Kenneth Snyder, Director of Campus
Safety & Judicial Affairs at x0213 or
csdirector@albion.edu .
