Painter, Photographer Share Opening
Exhibit at Albion College
Monday, August 29, 2005 Albion, Mich. —Large floral “unstill”-life paintings and panoramic photographs complement each other as they share the main gallery at Albion College’s Bobbitt Visual Arts Building. The artwork, by California artist Joyce Lieberman and Michigan photographer Richard Hackel, is on display in the gallery through October 1. Lieberman’s series of colorful paintings begin with a central flower arrangement, around which she created different vistas, suggesting motion or restriction through the combination of subject and background. Michigan native Lieberman is a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Art and holds an MFA from the University of Texas at Austin. Ann Arbor artist Richard Hackel displays his panoramic photographs, which show 720-degree (two times around) views of county fairs, town squares, and national parks. “By revolving the camera beyond one revolution, I document in landscape a change of people, events, and season,” Hackel notes. Hackel is an assistant professor of art at the University of Michigan, where he also directs the University’s ophthalmic photography program at the Kellogg Eye Center. The exhibition is
free and open to the public Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Friday
hours are 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.; Saturday, hours are
