ALBION, Mich. – Albion College’s $41.6 million science complex renovation and expansion project entered the construction phase with its April 16 groundbreaking at the construction site.

Breaking ground for the the College's new science complex April 16 are Albion College President Peter Mitchell, '67; Lisa Lewis, associate professor of chemistry; Thomas Wilch, associate professor of geological sciences; student Lindsay Drewes, '05; student Anjali Arora, '04; Richard Baird, '78, chairman of the board of trustees; and John Vournakis, '61, trustee.

The new science complex is the centerpiece of the College’s current $140 million “Liberal Arts at Work” capital campaign, and will provide students and faculty with state-of-the-art science facilities for teaching, learning and research.  In addition, the complex will house together, for the first time in Albion's history, all the natural science and mathematics/computer science programs.

The potential of the new complex has generated excitement, with several hundred donations made to the "Liberal Arts at Work" campaign for its construction.  In addition, the campaign has received a $4.65 million grant from the Kresge Foundation, and a $1.5 million grant from the Towsley Foundation has made a $1.5 million grant to the complex.
