Science Complex Project
Gets Underway with Groundbreaking

ALBION, Mich. –
Albion College’s $41.6
million science complex renovation and expansion project entered the
construction phase with its April 16 groundbreaking at the construction site.

Breaking ground for the the College's new science complex April 16
are Albion College President Peter Mitchell, '67; Lisa Lewis, associate
professor of chemistry; Thomas Wilch, associate professor of geological
sciences; student Lindsay Drewes, '05; student Anjali Arora, '04;
Richard Baird, '78, chairman of the board of trustees; and John
Vournakis, '61, trustee.
The new
science complex
is the centerpiece of the College’s current $140 million
“Liberal Arts at Work”
capital campaign, and will provide students and faculty with
state-of-the-art science facilities for teaching, learning and research.
In addition, the complex will house together, for the first time in
Albion's history, all the natural science and mathematics/computer
science programs.
The potential of the
new complex has generated excitement, with several hundred donations
made to the "Liberal Arts at Work" campaign for its construction.
In addition,
the campaign has received a $4.65
million grant from the Kresge Foundation, and a
$1.5 million grant from the Towsley
Foundation has made a $1.5 million grant to the complex.
