Equestrian Center Taking Shape
Mid-August Opening On Schedule

Posted June 24, 2004

Visible now to more than just the mind's eye, Albion College's Nancy G. Held Equestrian Center takes shape south of the College's main campus.

The center is on track to welcome its first equine residents with the opening of the 2004-05 academic year in August.

The Held Equestrian Center will eventually house up to 30 horses in state-of-the-art facilities.

The center area of the stall barn will house the tack room, wash stall, classrooms and equipment lockers.  A 100' X 200' indoor arena will put the finishing touches on the center.

Construction and the first year of operation of the equestrian facility were made possible by a $750,000 donation from Albion philanthropist Nancy Held, professor emerita of education and the former director of the College’s teacher education program. An additional $250,000 gift from Jean and Sheldon Laughlin of Parma, Mich., will help the Held Equestrian Center achieve its goal to become the premier equestrian facility for a liberal arts college in the Midwest.  The Groundbreaking Ceremony for the center was held in April.

Plans for the center can be found by clicking here, and a layout of the land behind Bellemont Manor can be found by clicking here.
