One of the world’s most widely

keynote address to the 13th annual Albion
College Elkin R. Isaac Student Research Symposium, on Thursday,
April 18, at 7 p.m. in the College’s Goodrich Chapel.
Author of numerous
novels, plays and other works, including contemporary classics
“Cat’s Cradle” and “Breakfast of Champions,” Vonnegut’s work
has won rave reviews from both literary critics and the general public.
His 1969 novel “Slaughterhouse-Five,” based on his WWII experience
as a POW in Germany, rose to the top of the New York Times Bestseller
list. The Symposium also will
highlight original research done by more than 80 students in science and
non-science majors, with public presentation all day. The
College’s annual Honors Convocation, highlighting the best and
brightest students as recognized by the faculty, will take place at 11
a.m. Thursday morning, in Goodrich Chapel. Albion alumnus Joseph B.
Serra, ’56, an orthopedic surgeon and a leader of Rotary
International’s global polio-eradication campaign, will present the
Isaac Symposium lecture on Wednesday, April 17, at 7:30 p.m. in Bobbitt
Auditorium. This annual
all-college symposium is named in honor of Elkin R. Isaac, former coach
and athletic director at Albion College who retired as athletic director
at University of the Pacific in 1984. Along with highlighting
current student research and achievement, the Symposium brings Isaac’s
former students and nationally prominent scholars to present their
unique discoveries and celebrate the excitement of sound research. All symposium events
are open to the public. For more information and a full schedule,
