Early threats of rain moved the proceedings
indoors, but both the weather and the day proved bright, as 318 members of
the Class of 2003 celebrated Commencement on May 10. News anchor Devin Scillian (right) of Detroit's NBC Channel 4 was the commencement speaker, and received an honorary degree, along with Trustee James A. Klungness, founder of the College's Klugness Scholarship. An old tradition was revived, when, after more than 50 years of silence, the senior class horn was sounded by Jackson Lanphear. Senior Alex Carroll gave the senior class greeting. |

Two Albion College faculty members, retiring this year, were also recognized at Commencement. J. Thomas Oosting, professor of theatre, and John Wenzel, professor of mathematics, were raised to the rank of emeritus professor by the Board of Trustees. Wenzel and Oosting had a combined 67-year tenure teaching at Albion.
