ALBION, Mich. —  In a deep jungle, amid the ruins of a great temple, Albion College’s Theater Department awakens a fresh performance of Shakespeare favorite “A Midsummer Night Dream.” The play runs Wednesday, March 1, through Saturday, March 4, at 8 p.m. each evening in the Herrick Auditorium.

It is the Bard’s beloved play that has charmed and amused countless generations, now with an Indian twist. The setting is India in the early 20th century, and brings out themes such as the caste system and arranged marriage. Shakespeare’s famed fairies are transformed in to Hindu gods and demons who grace the stage with their beauty and power.

Charles Lott, a senior who plays Oberon, commented, “It is really fun working with this production because everyone is so involved. We have been talking about this production since last fall! Everyone is ahead of schedule and really making Shakespeare’s characters real. This is going to be a great show.”

“A Midsummer Night Dream” is not intended for small children.  Reservations are strongly encouraged for this show.  Tickets are $2 for students and $3 for the general public. For further information pr to reserve tickets, please contact the Albion College Theatre Department, 517-629-0344.
