Grainger’s ‘Lincolnshire Poesy’
Featured on Last Albion College Symphonic Band Concert
Monday, April 10, 2006 Reported by Jake Weber ALBION, Mich. — One of the “all-time great works for wind band,” Percy Grainger’s Lincolnshire Poesy, is the highlight of Albion College Symphonic Band’s spring concert, scheduled for Saturday, April 22, at 8 p.m. in the College’s Goodrich Chapel. Along with “Lincolnshire,” the band will perform Epinicion - by John Paulson and Allerseelen by Richard Strauss “These are being performed as companion pieces on this concert,” says director Sam McIlhagga. “The first is a contemporary, aleatoric work (based on chance music & non-pitch based sounds) depicting the remains of a battlefield in ancient Greece where Greek soldiers are charged with sorting the wounded from the dead. Allerseelen, or ‘All Soul’s Day’ is the complete anthesis, with broad sweeping melodic gestures in an extremely tonal setting.” Kappa Kappa Psi, the band fraternity, will sponsor a reception following the concert. This concert is free and the public is invited to attend. For more information, contact the Albion College Music department, 517-629-0481. Music Department Website Back to Campus News .
