Albion College Symphonic Band Plays
World Premiere Of Albion College Student Composition Reported by Elissa Courtright, ’07 ALBION, Mich. — An evening of exceptional works is in store for audiences Friday, March 3, as the Albion College Symphonic Band presents its first concert of the semester. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. in Goodrich Chapel. This concert features the world premiee of Mortalis Oriens, composed by Albion College senior Amy Riske, who will graduate as Albion College’s first music composition major this May. The piece was written over this past summer, advised by music professor Andrew Bishop through Albion’s FURSCA (Foundation for Undergraduate Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity) program. Albion College Symphonic Band director Samuel McIlhagga describes Mortalis Oriens as “an impressionistic composition that describes the point of day when the sun breaks over the horizon. We’ve had a lot of fun working on it and I’m very excited to feature one of our own students’ music on a concert.” In addition to Riske’s premiere, the Albion College Symphonic Band has invited DeWitt High School Symphony Band to perform in the concert. This concert is free and the public is invited to attend. For more information, contact the Albion College Music department, 517-629-0481. Music Department Website Back to Campus News .
