Sigma Nus Host Tournament for
Jessie’s Gift
Monday, April 10, 2006 Reported by Jake Weber ALBION, Mich. — “Guest” players from the faculty, exciting entertainment and prizes make the Albion College Sigma Nu fraternity’s third annual charity basketball tournament an enjoyable evening for everyone. The Sigma Nus tip off against Delta Sigma Phi fraternity on Friday, April 21, at 6:30 p.m. In Kresge Gymnasium.. Sigma Nu philanthropy chair Bill Harrison said that tournament proceeds will benefit Jessie’s Gift, a philanthropic fund named in honor of Jessie Longhurst, an Albion resident and Albion College student killed in an auto accident in 2005. The fraternity hopes to raise close to $15,000. Last year’s tournament raised more than $10,000 to help fund the elementary school nurse for Albion Public Schools. “Jessie taught us the importance of giving back, and we wanted to do the same for her,” said Harrison, speaking on behalf of the entire fraternity. “Through Jessie’s Gift, we’re able to help in her goal of creating better opportunities for the youth.” Members of the Albion College faculty will join both fraternity teams in the contest. The Albion College Dance Team and Euphonics singing group will provide entertainment throughout the evening. A raffle with numerous prizes rounds out the diversions from the game. Game T-shirts, which will be available for $5, were designed by Albion Public Schools students who are participating in a mentoring program with Albion College students. Tickets to the tournament are $3 before the game and $5 at the door. For ticket reservations or more information, contact Harrison at 517/629-1952 or wch10@albion.edu. .
