Critiques ‘Left Behind’ Theology for Third Albion College Lecture ALBION, Mich. — 60 million Americans can’t be wrong – or can they? Bill Ritter, visiting scholar for Albion College’s Ford and Gerstacker Institutes, turns his attention to “The Damages of Dispensationalism,” Wednesday, April 12, at 7 p.m. in the College’s Gerstacker International House Auditorium (corner of Hannah and East Erie Streets). Ritter’s focus for the evening is the popular “Left Behind” series of books written by Jerry B. Jenkins and Tim LaHaye. The books, which have sold more than 60 million copies, says Ritter, are “faulty history, distorted theology and dangerous political propaganda.” “Hundred of people have been able to hear the previous two lectures and we look forward to his third lecture in this series,” said Ford Institute director Tom Padgett. “I know this talk will be equally informative and enjoyable to the audience.” An audio file of Ritter’s Stroud lecture, “The Religious Right and American Politics,” is available at http://www.albion.edu/ac_news/AlbionViews2005-06/stroud_ritter.asp. “The Dangers of Dispensationalism” marks Ritter’s third public lecture at Albion College this semester. An Albion College trustee and pastor emeritus at First United Methodist Church in Birmingham, Ritter is serving this semester as the College’s first Joe H. Stroud Visiting Scholar for the Gerald R. Ford Institute for Public Policy and Service, and as the 2006 Executive-in-Residence for the Carl A. Gerstacker Institute for Professional Management. Along with offering public lectures this semester, Ritter also is teaching two special seminar courses for upper-level Gerstacker and Ford institute students. These presentations are all
free and open to the public. For more information,
