ALBION, Mich. – A celebration of many Asian/Pacific Island cultures and cuisines is in store for the entire Albion Community at the third annual Obon Festival, to be held Sunday, April 30, from 3 to 7 p.m. in the College’s Kellogg Center.

Obon, a traditional Japanese summer festival, “is an important event in Japanese and Japanese-American communities,” said Asian Awareness Group (AAG) member Kirk Iwasaki. “To share it with Albion, so we are holding it in the spring.”

From 3-5 p.m. festival events include: games and crafts, yoga and Asian food-tasting. From 5-75 p.m., AAG hosts a screening and discussion of “Jay Life,” a documentary about contemporary Japanese-American youth across the country, created by Iwasaki as a senior project at Albion.

This event is open to the public and is free, with nominal charges for tickets. For more information, contact AAG co-president Eugene Shin at 517/629-1697 or ees12@albion.edu.
