Courtroom Drama Monday, March 13, 2006 Reported by Jake Weber ALBION, Mich. – The interaction of race, civil rights, and the busiest courtroom in the country make up a fascinating story, one that will be told Tuesday, March 21, at 7 p.m. in Albion College’s Upper Baldwin Hall. Author Steve Bogira will discuss his book, "Courtroom 302: A Year behind the Scenes in an American Criminal Courthouse,” as the guest of the College's Law, Justice and Society (LJS) program. Bogira, a Chicago-based journalist, spent a year with one courtroom in Chicago's Cook County Criminal Courthouse. His book gives an in-depth portrait of the criminal justice system, as seen in the courtroom, the lockup, the jury room, the judge's chambers and the spectator's gallery. “This is a unique and profound illumination of our criminal court system,” says LJS director Bill Rose. “Bogira raises some fundamental issues of race, civil rights, and justice.” This presentation is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Rose at 517/629-0416 or wrose@albion.edu. .
