Posted Monday,  November 21 2005

Reported by Heather Horobik, ’06

ALBION, Mich. —  Unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith are the seven principles celebrated throughout the week of Kwanzaa. Albion College celebrates these themes, and the holiday with a dinner at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, in the College’s Kellogg Center.

An American cultural observance for people of African decent, “Kwanzaa” means “first fruits of harvest” in Swahili, and is intended to be a synthesis of many African festivals. Kwanzaa opens the door to African culture as well as providing the tools for community celebration.

Tickets are $3 in advance, $4 at the door. Reservations are strongly encouraged. To reserve tickets or for more information, contact Lauren Harmon at 517-629-1503 or LMH14@albion.edu or Danielle Ruffin at 517-629-1699 or DLR12@albion.edu.
