Jazz Ensemble Returns to Campus for Concert
Monday, Feb. 27, 2006

Reported by Ruthie Spalding, ’09

ALBION, Mich. —  Get ready for a jazzy night with the Albion College Jazz Ensemble on Thursday, March 9, at 8 p.m. in the Kellogg Center. After performances at the Firefly club in Ann Arbor and the Elmhurst (Ill.) Jazz Festival, the jazz ensemble has come back for even more!

This concert features a tribute to the music of Thad Jones and Mel Lewis, including “Big Dipper,” “Ahunk Ahunk,” “A Good Time Was Had by All,” and sever other wonderful pieces. Music by Eddie Harris, Lester Young and Michigan native Ellen Rowe rounds out the evening.

Ensemble director James Ball notes that many of the ensemble members will play solos during the concert. “Soloing is a very tough musical skill, and it’s even harder when there’s an audience,” Ball noted. “It’s really great to have so many soloists in the group right now.”

This concert is free and the public is invited to attend.  For more information, contact the Albion College Music department, 517-629-0481.
