Community Invited to Garlic Mustard ‘Weed Out’ in Whitehouse Nature Center
Wednesday, April 26, 2006

Reported by Jake Weber

ALBION, Mich. –  All community hands are invited to a garlic mustard “Weed Out” for the Albion College Whitehouse Nature Center on Saturday, April 29. Weeders will begin at 10 a.m. in the Nature Center Interpretive Building, located at the east end of the College’s athletic fields complex. Supplies, gloves and instructions will be provided at the site from 10 a.m. until noon or later.

According to Nature Center director Tamara Crupi, garlic mustard is an invasive plant species that has become an unwelcome presence in the Nature Center. “Garlic mustard chokes out virtually all of the spring wildflowers,” says Crupi. “This is a great family activity, and people can feel good about doing something positive for the environment.”

No special gardening skills or previous experience are necessary to participate. For more information, contact the Whitehouse Nature Center at 517/629-0582 or tcrupi@albion.edu.
