Former Mobster Visits Albion College to Speak Against Gambling

ALBION, Mich. – Michael Franzese, a man alternately referred to by the media and law enforcement as the New York Mob’s “Long Island Don” and “The Prince of the Mafia,” delivers an important message about gambling and sports at Albion College’s Goodrich Chapel Monday, Jan. 30, at 8 p.m.

Franzese has been a featured guest at National Basketball Association and Major League Baseball rookie camps, and has been featured on ESPN, FOX Sports, and HBO’s Real Sports. He is frequently a guest lecturer at NCAA colleges and has addressed numerous national gatherings of sports coaches and administrators. Franzese it the author of two memoirs, Quitting the Mob and Blood Covenant.

According to Franzese’s website, he is “determined to use the compelling experiences of his former life for the benefit of at-risk youth, professional and student athletes, corporate executives and for anyone seeking the inspiration to beat the odds and make positive changes in their lives.”

“We are really excited that Mr. Franzese is coming to Albion,” associate athletic director Lisa Roschek said. “I think it’s cool for the students because he was at the highest level of something that is somewhat prevalent on campus - gambling. I think it will be entertaining, but with his involvement in racketeering, point shaving, and gambling, it will be pretty eye-opening for the students.”
