Albion College Choirs Present Women’s Choral Works
Monday, March 13, 2006

Reported by Bethany Corriveau, ’07

ALBION, Mich. — The Albion College Concert Choir, Briton Singers, and Albion Pro Choral present a concert on Sunday, March 26, at 4 p.m. in Albion College’s Goodrich Chapel. The concert, in honor of Women’s History Month, features original choral works by women composers such as Lydia Adams, Eleanor Daly, and Ruth Watson Henderson as well as an arranged piece by Barbara Baker.

All but one of the composers featured in the program are still living; the only exception is Hildegard von Bingen, the earliest known female composer. The choir will perform her piece O virtus sapientiae (O Strength of Wisdom), which speaks of the creative power of wisdom, seen by von Bingen as the feminine form of the creator which encircles and embraces all creation.

This concert is free and the public is invited to attend.  For more information, contact the Albion College Music department, 517-629-0481.
