Mozart Requiem Highlighted for
Albion College’s Year-End Choral Concert Monday, April 17, 2006 Reported by Jake Weber ALBION, Mich. — 2006 marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of classical composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The Albion College Music Department joins the fray of worldwide observances of Mozart’s birth by featuring his Requiem in its final choral concert of the year on Sunday, April 23, at 4 p.m. in the College’s Goodrich Chapel. Under the direction of music professor Douglas Rose, the Concert Choir will be accompanied by Ann Arbor organist Charles Kennedy and features student soloists Kathy Wipperman, Rachel Lamphere, Jason Sebacher, and Dan Coupland. “Mozart’s writing of the Requiem is prominent in the film and stage play ‘Amadeus,’ and the movie’s soundtrack features large portions of the piece,” explained Rose. “It’s astounding how the film made the Requiem so popular -- Requiem excerpts have been in dozens of movie and radio commercials. While most people may not have heard the entire Requiem, I would be surprised if they didn’t recognize at least some of the music.” This concert is free and the public is invited to attend.
