A wild monkey contemplates the camera from a Belize treetop. "We
saw many beautiful reefs and fish," says biology professor Dan Skean of
the Belize trip, "plenty of scorpions, tarantulas, iguanas and boas,
too!"

Kate Williams, '05, Marie Husby,
'06, Sara Furnival, '06, and Catherine Game, '08, were part of the
Wayfarers International Group for Service (WINGS) project that traveled
to Costa Rica.
"We were in Barrio de Jesus, Costa Rica doing work on their community
center, painting, repairing, and giving them supplies. We also worked
with the elderly and at a children's soup kitchen," reports Williams.
"Our group was amazing and the community was so
motivating. The highlight of the trip was accomplishing our goal and
seeing how excited the locals were to have a better community center."

Study Break
A week away from campus, but still plenty of education
Posted March 17, 2005
It was week
off from classes, but for a number of Albion College students, last week's spring
break was an educational experience. Trips to Belize and Costa Rica provided students with the opportunity to
enhance their classwork as well as reach out to the world beyond Albion.

Belize has been a biennial destination for students in Tropical Forest ane
Reef Ecology for more than a decade. Among many activities, students
toured the Sittee River. "This trip was such an eye-opening experience
because not only did we learn about tropical rainforests but we also
learned and experienced the Belizeans' culture and their way of living
too," says Cynthia Spurgat, '07.
