Winter Around the World
Off-Campus Scenes (and Albion ones, too)
Posted December 4, 2004
Weather put the kibosh on photos of the College's annual
tree lighting this year. But Albion students -- on campus and away
-- have a host of options for getting into the holiday spirit.

"This picture is of the giant Gluehwein stand at the Weihnachtsmarkt in
Heidelberg, Germany," explains Kara Christenson, '06, who is
working both as a student and as a translator during her off-campus
semester. "Gluehwein is a hot drink with wine and spices ... there
are stands all over the city selling everything from spices, sausage,
and drinks to Christmas decorations and toys. Everything looks like
Christmas all over the city!"

The weather outside was frightful, but the College's African-Caribbean
Student Union made the Kellogg Center feel a bit tropical, at least for
their fall dinner.

Kristina Cole, '06, on top of the world Down Under, on
Magnetic Island, near Townsville, Australia. wjhere Cole is
studying fire management at James Cook University. Cole notes that
the Australians even have the Americans beat when it comes to starting
Christmas early. "We did have Christmas dinner on November 4th."

Denise Robinson, '06, took the above photo on a street in Alicante,
Spain, where she's studying at a university and living with a host
family. "Chestnuts are sold on nearly every street corner in the
city during the holiday season," says Robinson. Photo by Denise
