Carolyn Aishton, '64, enjoyed lunch with Gerstacker Institute students Monday, which included a Q&A session probing Aishton's marketing and branding expertise.  "It's good, as an Albion College trustee, to get to know what the students are interested in," says Aishton.  "Plus, it's just fun."  Photos by Miranda Green, '06

Business Lunch
Aishton, ’64, Talks Shop with Gerstacker Students
Posted February 22, 2005

Gerstacker Institute students have two days this week to examine the work of a high-powered business consultant, up close and personal on Albion's campus.  Trustee Carolyn Aiston,’64, is spending yesterday and today on marketing and branding, in intensive meetings and discussions aimed solely at helping students understand these issues in today's business world.

Aishton makes a point during lunch.

"I'm able to get a much closer view of the students who are in the Gerstacker Institute, which is certainly an interest for me," says Aishton.  A retired vice president with Avon Products, Inc., Aishton currently provides consulting services to businesses, and likes what she sees in Gerstacker's future business leaders.  "I am impressed with what they've accomplished so far through the Institute," she says, "and how focused they are on what they need -- in education and through internships -- in order to achieve their goals."

"She is very knowledgable about her area of business and it was nice to get a woman's perspective on issues in the business world," remarks Julia McCormick, '07, who had  lunch Monday with Aishton.  "Her enthusiasm and energy encouraged me to further pursue a career in marketing."

With two days focused exclusively on Albion students, Aishton (seated, center) has time to meet with small groups and individuals.  "It gives me a chance to answer all kinds of questions about marketing and branding, and how the business world works with those issues right now," she says.

Topic was Marketing and Branding meeting with GI students who are interested in the marketing, sales and advertising side of business.  Two days meeting with students individual meetings, hearing about their interests and answering questions that they have abuot marketing side.

For me, it's fun ,...... and as a board member, I'm able now to get a much closer view of the student body, and in particular the students who are inthe bus inst, which is certainly an interest for me.  I was impressed with what they've accomplished so far in the bus institite and how focused they are on what their goals are and what they need, in the way of studies in order to help them - studies, educationand internships -- in order to achieve their goals.  As a result, I've set up a lunch today with several with Marcia Starkey, to see how alumni might be more involved in developing internship opportunities for students.
