Students Studying the World
Off-campus studies are an integral part of
the Albion experience today. Nearly 40
percent of the class of 2002 spent a
semester off campus, a trend that is
expected to increase. This fall 62
students are off campus, in places ranging
from Chicago to Tokyo, Washington, D.C.;
Irkutsk; Athens, Greece; Melbourne and even
the middle of the Atlantic ocean (on a
sailing ship). Some are simply
enjoying a campus exchange, while others are
working at internships, polishing a foreign
language or doing research.

Sterling Heights junior Eddie Visco is
interning in the press office for the
Minority Leader of the House, Dick Gephardt.
“My first day at work I expected to do
mundane jobs, but I left awe-struck. Not
only did I see Mr. Gephardt, but I saw
Senate Majority leader Tom Daschle and Vice
President Dick Cheney,” says Visco, whose
internship duties include supporting
Gephardt’s press conferences and working
with press releases.

Albion, Ind., junior Amber Chenoweth is
attending classes in psychology and Aboriginal
studies at the University of Queensland. When
not studying, Chenoweth says, “So far, I’ve
conquered the Great Barrier Reef, cuddled an
adorable koala, fed a kangaroo, gone to an
Australian Football League game, enjoyed some
Aussie hospitality, enjoyed a wonderful
weekend in Melbourne and got to see the sites
along Great Ocean Road, and traveled to the
Outback! “ Chenoweth has also joined the
College Rowing Club and will participate in
regatta competition.
