Bartlett Elected to Institute of Medicine National Honor Recognizes Albion Graduate's Professional Excellence Tuesday, January 20, 2004 One of the nation's top medical researchers, whose work has saved tens of thousands of lives over the past 30 years, Robert Bartlett, '60, was recently elected a member of the National Academy of Science's Institute of Medicine (IOM). Election to the IOM is considered one of the highest honors in the fields of medicine and health. Bartlett (whose life and career were highlighted in the Winter 2002 Io Triumphe) joins a select group of less than 1,300 medical professionals nationwide, recognized for their distinctive contributions to health through biomedical or social sciences research or leadership in the health professions. Currently, Bartlett serves as professor of surgery at the U-M Medical School, director of critical care/general surgery, and director of surgical intensive care at the U-M Health System. He has been honored with numerous awards for his teaching and research, and has authored more than 450 articles, monographs, chapters and books. |
