Campus Beautification: Signage
Signage (Total Goal: $12,000)
Signage is about more than just getting people to the right place. It's a direct reflection of our brand and gives visitors a sense of what their destination is going to be like.
We've identified two key signage areas of focus for this year's campus beautification initiative.
- Modernize street signs along the perimeter of campus
- "Welcome to Campus" banner hung across Erie and Hannah streets

Campus Beautification: Community Spaces
Community Spaces (Total Goal: $16,000)
We've all heard it said that the sense of community at Albion College is really special. It's easy to tell where students love to hang out, so we want to give some of their favorite places the attention that they deserve.
We've identified three key community spaces to focus upon for this year's campus beautification initiative.
- Picnic tables for the quad
- Benches for campus
- Chairs for common area lounges

In spring 2000, Albion's softball field was dedicated as Dempsey Field, honoring Class of 1954 alumni Cedric and June Luke Dempsey, who have shared a love for athletics since their college days. A star athlete as a student, Cedric Dempsey went on to serve as president of the NCAA.
Under the athletics master plan, the softball complex will move to the east and benefit from its close proximity to the central plaza created as part of this plan. In addition to its new infield, the softball facility will have new dugouts, bleachers, and permanent outfield fencing.
"There has been a rise in competition for facilities in the MIAA and these facilities will place us on par with our MIAA rivals," Athletic Director Matt Arend said.
Building this softball complex, with permanent outfield fencing, will ensure that Albion will be eligible to host conference championship games. Relocating the softball complex will also open up other outdoor fields for uninterrupted intramural and club sport competition.
Named gift opportunities include:
- Naming of softball complex
- New red clay infield for Dempsey Field
- Backstop with brick wall
- Permanent outfield fence
- Permanent dugouts
- Permanent bleachers
- Press box and public address system
Athletic Facility Upgrades
The Albion Athletic Campus is part of what provides a campus buzz. Nearly all Britons—those who compete and those who support them—have memories that hearken back to Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium, the Dow Recreation and Wellness Center or the Kresge Gymnasium.
Prospective students–those who compete for the Britons and those who will cheer them on–place a premium on top-tier athletic facilities and excellent facilities will place Albion in a strong competitive position among its peers.
And finally, a rich athletic community and the memories it creates is part of the college experience that unites Britons across generations. The College's goal is to ensure that continues for all Britons–current, future and past.
Imagine stepping into a walkway of champions that connects current Albion students and student-athletes to our successful history.
Within the gates will be two competition complexes, both integrated within the existing facilities. It will be welcoming and accessible to past, current and future Britons as well as other community members.
A revamped softball and baseball complex and a brand-new soccer and lacrosse competition facility will position Albion College as a leader in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association and will emobdy the spirit of the Briton family.
A gift to support the future of the Davis Athletic Complex will enable new generations of Albion student-athletes to compete even more successfully and it will ensure that all Britons today have meaningful experiences of their own.
A gift to the Davis Athletic Complex can help ensure success, tradition and community.
