Campus Beautification: Signage
Signage (Total Goal: $12,000)
Signage is about more than just getting people to the right place. It's a direct reflection of our brand and gives visitors a sense of what their destination is going to be like.
We've identified two key signage areas of focus for this year's campus beautification initiative.
- Modernize street signs along the perimeter of campus
- "Welcome to Campus" banner hung across Erie and Hannah streets

Campus Beautification: Community Spaces
Community Spaces (Total Goal: $16,000)
We've all heard it said that the sense of community at Albion College is really special. It's easy to tell where students love to hang out, so we want to give some of their favorite places the attention that they deserve.
We've identified three key community spaces to focus upon for this year's campus beautification initiative.
- Picnic tables for the quad
- Benches for campus
- Chairs for common area lounges

In spring 2000, Albion's softball field was dedicated as Dempsey Field, honoring Class of 1954 alumni Cedric and June Luke Dempsey, who have shared a love for athletics since their college days. A star athlete as a student, Cedric Dempsey went on to serve as president of the NCAA.
Under the athletics master plan, the softball complex will move to the east and benefit from its close proximity to the central plaza created as part of this plan. In addition to its new infield, the softball facility will have new dugouts, bleachers, and permanent outfield fencing.
"There has been a rise in competition for facilities in the MIAA and these facilities will place us on par with our MIAA rivals," Athletic Director Matt Arend said.
Building this softball complex, with permanent outfield fencing, will ensure that Albion will be eligible to host conference championship games. Relocating the softball complex will also open up other outdoor fields for uninterrupted intramural and club sport competition.
Named gift opportunities include:
- Naming of softball complex
- New red clay infield for Dempsey Field
- Backstop with brick wall
- Permanent outfield fence
- Permanent dugouts
- Permanent bleachers
- Press box and public address system

Why did you choose Albion?
When I visited Albion my senior year of high school, it just felt right, like this is where I belonged. When deciding on schools, I kept thinking about that feeling and I just knew Albion was the place for me.
What is your best Albion memory or experience?
I think it would have to be the moment I moved into Mitchell Towers my sophomore year. I was living with two of my best friends, and I had this feeling of, "I'm back. Back where I belong, and it feels great to be back." That feeling of belonging has continued with me throughout my time here at Albion. It's a place that has become my home. That, I think, is the best experience Albion (or any college/university for that matter) can offer.
What are your future plans?
I want to either head to graduate school for psychology, or teach social studies in a high school.
How have financial aid and scholarships helped you?
Without financial aid and scholarships, attending Albion wouldn't be an option for me. It's because of the financial aid and scholarships I receive that Albion is even in my realm of possibilities.
How would you finish this sentence: "Because you give to Albion, I'm able to ...
...get the best education possible, for me, and have experiences that I couldn't get anywhere else.
