At Taste of Blackness, Community Members 'Inspired to Be Strong Examples'
Community leaders, parents, professors, college students and students from Albion Public Schools came together in the Kellogg Center February 23 for dancing, laughing, educating and much more, as Albion College's Black Student Alliance hosted its traditional "Taste of Blackness" program. A campus highlight each year during Black History Month, the event, according to BSA President Wynter Pitts, '14, "has definitely reminded students in the community and on campus to always dream big."
In Campus Lecture, Booth Walling Discusses Her Book, UN, Syria
In a February 19 lecture inside a crowded Bobbitt Auditorium, Carrie Booth Walling, assistant professor of political science, talked about her recently published book, All Necessary Measures: The United Nations and Humanitarian Intervention; drew connections to the ongoing situation in Syria; and shared how she became drawn to human rights and humanitarian intervention as a scholarly pursuit.

Alumna, Suffragist Anna Howard Shaw Gets Her Day in New Book
A pioneer girl who put herself through college, seminary and medical school, eventually rising to the national stage as a suffragist, is the focus of a groundbreaking new book by Trisha Franzen (left), professor of women’s and gender studies. Anna Howard Shaw: The Work of Woman Suffrage examines the life and work of one of Albion College’s most distinguished alumnae.
E&M Emeritus Maurice Branch Passes Away
Economics and management professor emeritus Maurice Branch passed away February 23 in Chelsea, Michigan, aged 92. Branch, who taught at Albion for 33 years, "was a liberal arts teacher in the sense that he understood economics as a human science and he brought out the humanity in it," said professor emeritus Larry Steinhauer. A memorial service is scheduled for May 10 at 11 a.m. at Silver Maples Retirement Community in Chelsea.
