Albion College 2017 Alumni Award Recipients Announced

A pair of influential Britons whose successes and contributions span decades have been named the 2017 recipients of Albion College's Distinguished Alumni Award, and a quartet of recent graduates who already have demonstrated exceptional achievement have been named 2017 recipients of the College's Young Alumni Award. Memories will be shared and awards will be presented Friday, April 21, in an on-campus ceremony.

Nick Smith, '18, Spans the Globe Through Semester at Sea

Each year, Albion students have the opportunity to study all over the world. Last fall, Nick Smith, '18, a finance and public policy major from Midland, Mich., and a member of the Britons swimming and diving team, completed a semester abroad through Semester at Sea, a program that allows students to travel and study while aboard a ship sailing the seas. In total, Smith, who is also in the Gerstacker and Ford institutes as well as the Honors Program, spent 104 days traveling to places including Greece, Italy, Morocco and Brazil.

Biology's Dale Kennedy Honored by Wilson Ornithological Society

Albion College biology professor Dale Kennedy's love of birds led her to a career of studying the feathered creatures. Her passion resulted in her recently received William and Nancy Klamm Service Award from the Wilson Ornithological Society, one of the oldest ornithological societies in America.

Mary Jean Eisenhower shares her remarkable career in international peace work as Albion College's 2017 Joseph S. Calvaruso Keynote speaker on Thursday, April 20. The College's 28th annual two-day Elkin R. Isaac Student Research Symposium opens Wednesday, April 19, with the Isaac Alumni Lecture, to be given by shark researcher Nick Whitney, '00.
