As the champion team of the region, the Albion stock seat team qualified to compete at the IHSA Semi-Finals held at the West Texas A&M University Horse Center in Canyon, TX on March 29 and 30.
The team was comprised of one rider per level for a total of six, plus one who qualified to compete as an individual. Albion also had its first IHSA alumni rider to compete in the alumni reining division.
After a long few days of travel and two days of tough competition on horses that were new to the riders, coach Denise Webber was very pleased with the end results. Senior Katie Heim (Zionsville, IN/Zionsville Community) won fourth place in the Intermediate II division, which was a great finish after only two years of riding and competing in the stock seat discipline.
After earning the title of high point rider for the region, junior Morgan Carey (Hemlock/Saint Charles Community) had already secured her ticket to Nationals. Carey and Coach Webber will travel to the IHSA Nationals in Harrisburg, PA on May 3-4.
