Information: Angie Dombrowski works at Albion College as Administrative Secretary for Counseling Services. She has been with Albion College since 1980, working previously in the Accounting Department 1980-1994, Career Development 1994-2003, Counseling Services 2003-Present. She is married to her husband Eddie and they have 2 cats and a dog. She has 2 daughters, 1 son and 10 grandchildren. In her spare time she enjoys music, dance, walking, gardening and spending time with her friends and family (especially her grandchildren).
Franklin A. Kelemen, Ph.D
Director of Counseling Services
Information: Franklin Kelemen completed his doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA in 1985. He completed a Masters in Social Work degree from the University of Pennsylvania (1978) following a B.A. in Psychology from Beloit College (1974). He was a Teaching Fellow while a doctoral candidate at Temple University and he completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Clinical Psychology at the Detroit Psychiatric Institute/Wayne State University School of Medicine. Dr. Kelemen has spent his professional career working with individuals and families in a wide variety of clinical settings. He has a particular interest in trauma and has completed research on the diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorders, the effects of trauma on children, and on the intergenerational effects of the Holocaust on children of Holocaust survivors. He has volunteered for the Red Cross and Michigan Psychological Association as a crisis response counselor, as an interviewer for the Shoah Foundation, and as a mediator for the Washtenaw County Dispute Resolution Center. In September, 2001, he was asked to help in the response to the World Trade Center attack.
Dr. Kelemen and the members of the Counseling Department look forward to working with Albion students. We recognize that college offers young adults an exciting adventure and an opportunity for growth and development. At the same time, college years are often a period of increased stress and pressure. Each student approaches the college experience with his or her own unique constellation of life experiences, concerns, and needs. We hope that the Counseling Center will be helpful in meeting the needs of each Albion students for support in maximizing their potential to reach their educational and personal goals.
Kiernan Gamel, CCSM, CADC
Certified Substance Abuse Specialist
Information: Kiernan Gamel completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in Workforce Education and Development from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale in 2000 and received his counseling certification in Addiction Studies from the University of Riverside-California. He is in the process of completing a Masters of Social Work from Eastern Michigan University.
Kiernan has experiences in various areas of mental health diagnosis and treatment but specializes in the prevention and treatment of Chemical Dependency. He has acted as Counselor and Lead Counselor at the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, Ca, Riverside County Substance Abuse Services-Ca., Outpatient Services for the Department of Veterans Affairs in Detroit, Aftercare Program for the Michigan Department of Corrections, and designed the Outpatient Program for Adolescent and Young Adults for Family Service and Children’s Aid in Michigan. While living in the West Indies Kiernan was Lead Counselor for Eric Clapton’s Chemical Dependency Treatment Center, Crossroads.
Kiernan designed and continues to manage outpatient substance abuse programs for Catholic Charities and supervises services for several prisons in Michigan. He enjoys pursuing healthy and active interests such as weight lifting, biking, golfing, and swimming.
Robert Slattery, M. D.
Information: Dr. Slattery is a Psychiatrist in the private practice of Jungian Psychotherapy in Ann Arbor Michigan. He is a graduate of Yale College and the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He is a former documentary filmmaker and is now a candidate at the Clinical Training Program of the C.G. Jung Institute of Chicago. His hobbies are writing and his cat, Molly.
