Kyle Wulf, Naperville, Ill. junior, carries the ball out of Briton territory. In 2007, the Brits were victorious over the Flying Dutchmen 1-0.

Last fall, the Albion Men’s Soccer team defeated Hope College twice in one season, giving the Brits two out of their three wins against Hope in over 15 years.

This year, the Brits are hoping to get another win against the Flying Dutch.

“(Hope) has been a top performer in our conference for a long time, and there is always a feather in our cap when we get a good result against them,” said head coach Jerry Block.  “Last year we beat them twice and finished fourth in our conference.  We’re definitely looking to get a great result against them this year.”

Block isn’t the only one looking for a victory this year against Hope.  Team captains Garrett Kuhlman, Tecumseh junior, and Kyle Wulf, Naperville, Ill., junior, are also determined to win.

“I’m very excited for this game,” Kuhlman said.  “We swept them last year, and I know that they are going to be coming out with a vengeance. They always bring a solid, fast -paced game, and it really forces us to play our very best.”

In order to prepare, the men treat each practice and game as if it were the big game itself.

“We come to practice every day and give 100 percent to both better ourselves as players and better ourselves as a team,” Wulf said.

The match-up between Albion and Hope will be over the weekend of fall break on Saturday, Oct. 11.

According to Coach Block, if students want to stick around, the players would love the support of their fans, Wulf agrees.

“One thing that always helps us get pumped for the game are the fans who act as our twelfth man and help keep our spirits up,” Wulf said. “The louder and the more energetic the crowd is, the better the result will be for us.”
